Choose the right Jeep SUV for your towing needs

Trucks are often the go-to for towing very heavy equipment, but you shouldn't discount the towing power of a Jeep SUV. Whether you're looking to tow along a small trailer, boat, or other toys, you can can do so with the right new Jeep model!

Get towing with the Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a full-size SUV, and thus it can tow the heaviest loads on select trims. There are four different engines to choose from, and the tow ratings really come down to the engine, trim level, and if it's a 4x4 or a 4x2. Without getting into the nitty gritty differences between the configurations, here are the towing ranges:

  • 3.6L V6 and 5.7L V8: the base trims can tow up to 3,500 pounds and the remaining trims up to 6,200 pounds
  • 6.4L V8 and 6.2L supercharged V8: both models can tow up to 7,200 pounds, which is the most for the Jeep SUV lineup!

Other Jeep SUV towing specs

The Jeep Cherokee has a few engine options, either a FWD or 4x4 setup, and all the trims can tow up to 2,000 pounds. The Jeep Wrangler in the 2-door style can tow up to 2,000 pounds and if you get the popular 4-door version you can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is what the Jeep Grand Cherokee starts at. It's also worth mentioning that the Wrangler is a great vehicle to safely tow behind an RV.

Not all Jeep Compass or Jeep Renegade trims have towing capabilities, but if you get the right engine you can also tow up to 2,000 pounds on these compact SUVS, when properly equipped.

If you're interested in towing with the Jeep SUV you plan on buying or leasing, make sure to let your salesperson know so they can set you up with the right equipment and right model for your needs.
